About us
The Swedish is a news site in simple Swedish, made for people who are learning the language. The best way to get better at Swedish is to read and learn about things that actually matter to the learner and that they will hear people talk about in their everyday life.
Why it exists
Ordinary Swedish news is written for native speakers. The sentences are long, the vocabulary is advanced and there are many expressions that are hard to look up. For a learner it is easy to give up after a few lines. Other news in simple Swedish, on the other hand, is made with accessibility in mind, to help people understand the news. The goal here is different: to help the learner learn the language, and to provide extra tools to achieve that.
The Swedish sits in between: real, current news, written in clear and simple language, with the vocabulary and the help needed for learning built right into the page.
What you get
- News in simple Swedish, sorted into Sweden, the world, economy, sport, culture and science. Just like a real news outlet.
- Translations of each article in English and German, so the learner can check that they understood it correctly.
- Key words from every article, with their different forms, so the learner picks up what they mean, how they are used, and how to say them.
- A word of the day, a quiz and a podcast, to practise reading, listening and vocabulary in different ways.
- The option to save words and take them along to practise in the Say it in Swedish learning system.
Part of Say it in Swedish
The Swedish is made by the one-man team behind Say it in Swedish, a platform for learning Swedish. The learner logs in with the same account in both places, so the words saved while reading are waiting when it is time to review and practise them.
