Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 October 2026

North Tone Media Handelsbolag operates The Swedish and Say it in Swedish, and is the data controller for the personal data described here. Our company details are in our Imprint. For privacy questions or requests, contact info@northtonemedia.com.

1. What we process and why

Login, saved words and learning activity. Accounts are created and managed on Say it in Swedish, which has its own privacy policy. When you log in to The Swedish with that account, we process your login credentials and account identifier to keep you signed in. Words you save while reading, and related learning activity, are stored against your account for use in Say it in Swedish. You can read The Swedish without an account. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Access and security logs. Our servers log your IP address, request time, requested page, browser information and login or security events, to operate and secure the service and detect abuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating and securing the service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers, and we do not send your activity to any AI provider.

2. Service providers and transfers

We use a hosting provider for our website, application and database, and the Say it in Swedish account system for login and saved words. Podcast audio is loaded from SoundCloud. We do not use the SoundCloud player and no SoundCloud cookies are set, but when you play an episode your browser requests the audio from SoundCloud's servers, which receive technical information such as your IP address.

If a provider processes personal data outside the EU/EEA, the transfer is protected by a mechanism recognised under GDPR, such as an adequacy decision or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

3. Cookies and local storage

NamePurposeDuration
siis_session (cookie)Keeps you signed in and identifies your session30 days
theme (local storage)Remembers whether you prefer light or dark mode. It stays in your browser and is never sent to usUntil you clear it

These are necessary for the service to work, so no consent is required.

4. How long we keep data

Account information and saved words are kept while your account exists; you can delete your account on Say it in Swedish. Access and security logs are kept for 90 days.

5. Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its processing, and receive it in a portable format. To exercise your rights, contact info@northtonemedia.com. You can also complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY) or the data-protection authority where you live or work.

We may update this policy; the date above shows the current version.
